Spain Residency by Investment

The Spanish Residency by Investment Program, which has been in place since September 2013, is a program that allows foreign investors to obtain a residence permit in Spain, but they must meet set criteria.

In this program, applicants can apply by making a significant economic contribution to Spain. The investment options required are:

  • Investing in a real estate property with a minimum value of 500,000 euros and holding this property until permanent residency is obtained,
  • Investing €2,000,000 in Spanish bonds and not withdrawing this investment for 5 years,
  • Investing €1,000,000 in shares of Spanish companies and not withdrawing this investment for at least 5 years,
  • Investing 1.000.000 Euros in a Spanish bank and not withdrawing this investment for at least 5 years.

In order to use the investment options, applicants must have obtained funds from abroad and provide a bank account statement sufficient to cover living expenses.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and are expected to provide a medical certificate and a criminal record.

The initial visa application process takes 10 days and the residence permit process takes 60 days from the submission of the application until the Spanish residence card is obtained. In addition, it is possible to apply for a permanent residence permit after 5 years and citizenship after 10 years after obtaining the visa.

The advantages offered by this program are:

  • Visa-free travel to 190 countries, including Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, Latin America and the European Union,
  • The possibility to live and work in Spain even if you reside in another country,
  • Permanent residency after 5 years and citizenship after 10 years.
